Artist's Description

This was the scene of some fierce fighting late in the day on September 17, 1862 - the day of the Civil War battle near Shrapsburg, Maryland. Known as the Antietam National Battlefield (from the Antietam Creek which runs through it) this battle was the single bloodiest day of the Civil War with 23,110 casualties - both Blue and Gray. Today, this is such a beautiful, and peaceful setting, it's hard to imagine the carnage that took place here.

About Judi Quelland

Judi Quelland

I was a professional photographer for more than 35 years. While my vocation included wedding and portrait photography and the restoration of very old (and not so old) images, my avocation goes toward the more creative. These include floral and landscape photography (hopefully with a different perspective), some special events that lend to creative images, and a few things that start as photographs but end as digital art creations. Stay tuned . . . for additional new work!
