Description
A solitary tree stands sentinel on the edge of what is known today as Bloody Lane. A fence, known as a stacked snake rail fence runs the complete length of the lane which, during the battle at Antietam was simply called the sunken road. The battle at Antietam was the single bloodiest day of the Civil War with 23,110 casualties .. both Northern and Southern.
