This beautiful gazebo, known as the Maryland State Monument, sits atop a rise in the ground, is surrounded by trees and a beautiful, peaceful park, and is across the street from the historic Dunker Church on the Antietam National Battlefield. The Battle at Antietam was the single bloodiest day of the Civil War with 23,110 casualties .. both Northern and Southern. This photo was made near sunset.
